Votive Candles

On December 18, 2015, a replica of Our Lady of Guadalupe was hung in our Chapel, a gift from our parochial vicar at that time. Soon after, Fr. Guthrie ordered a votive candle stand so that our parish could partake in the long-time practice of lighting a candle as a visual representation of our prayers and intentions being lifted up to our Heavenly Father. The light of the candle signifies our prayers and intentions, which are offered in faith, entering the light of God. It also shows reverence and our desire to remain present in prayer as we continue our day. The candle is an outward sign of our inner faith and that God is at work.
We have a votive stand in our Chapel where we place specially made votive candles. Votive is from the Latin word “votum” meaning “a vow” or “a promise.” As Catholics, we use prayer candles for a variety of reasons. We pray for guidance, strength, our families and friends, the sick, the poor, the marginalized and many other reasons. Understanding why and how to use Catholic prayer candles, will strengthen our faith and serve as a tangible reminder that God is always near.

The candles on the votive stand are a visual representation that someone is praying. Therefore, it is okay to use one candle for all of one’s prayers and intentions. We ask that a monetary donation be made so that we may continue to purchase replacement candles. Any candle money that remains goes towards the support of our parish. Please note: Due to Fire Marshall regulations, no outside candles are allowed in the chapel or church. These candles are made from inferior materials and are a fire hazard when lit, especially if left unattended.

Should you visit our Chapel and not see any votive candles, please know that it is a temporary situation. There have been some shipping delays from our supplier, but our team of volunteers restock the candles as quickly as they can. Our rich Catholic traditions carry with them beautiful significances and we can continue to practice them for years to come, when we do so safely and responsibly.   
 

Velas

El 18 de diciembre de 2015, una réplica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe fue colgada en nuestra Capilla, un regalo de nuestro vicario parroquial en ese momento. Poco después, el P. Guthrie ordenó un stand velas para que nuestra parroquia pudiera participar en la práctica de largo tiempo de encender una vela como una representación visual de nuestras oraciones e intenciones siendo elevadas a nuestro Padre Celestial. La luz de la vela significa nuestras oraciones e intenciones, que se ofrecen en la fe, entrando en la luz de Dios. También muestra reverencia y nuestro deseo de permanecer presentes en la oración mientras continuamos nuestro día. La vela es un signo externo de nuestra fe interior y de que Dios está obrando.
Tenemos un stand votivo en nuestra Capilla donde colocamos velas votivas especialmente hechas. Votivo es de la palabra latina “votum” que significa “un voto” o “una promesa”. Como católicos, usamos velas de oración por una variedad de razones. Oramos por guía, fuerza, nuestras familias y amigos, los enfermos, los pobres, los marginados y muchas otras razones. Entender por qué y cómo usar velas de oración católicas, fortalecerá nuestra fe y servirá como un recordatorio tangible de que Dios siempre está cerca.

Las velas en el stand son una representación visual de que alguien está orando. Por lo tanto, está bien usar una vela para todas las oraciones e intenciones de uno. Pedimos que se haga una donación monetaria para que podamos continuar comprando velas de reemplazo. Cualquier dinero de vela que quede va hacia el apoyo de nuestra parroquia. Nota importante: Debido a las regulaciones de Fire Marshall, no se permiten velas exteriores en la capilla o la iglesia. Estas velas están hechas de materiales inferiores y son un peligro de incendio cuando se encienden, especialmente si se dejan desatendidas.

Si usted visita nuestra Capilla y no ve ninguna vela votiva, por favor sepa que es una situación temporal. Ha habido algunos retrasos de envío de nuestro proveedor, pero nuestro equipo de voluntarios reabastece las velas tan rápido como pueden. Nuestras ricas tradiciones católicas llevan consigo hermosos significados y podemos seguir practicándolos en los años venideros, cuando lo hagamos de manera segura y responsable.
