Our Campus Fared Well!
On January 24, 2023, many of us were able to check “survive a tornado” off of our Bucket List! The National Weather Service in Houston confirmed that the EF3 tornado had a maximum wind speed of 140 mph and an estimated path length of 18 miles. Thankfully, our campus suffered only minor damage.
The Rectory (home of our priests) did not receive any damage, however, a portion of the fence did come down. The fence was quickly replaced. On our Hall Rd Campus, there was minimal roof damage, with only a few shingles flying away, which have since been repaired. One of our trees lost a branch (KCs assisted in removal) and we lost a small palm tree, with tree debris (twigs, small branches and leaves) covering the parking lot and grounds, but nothing major. One of our fence enclosures came down, but was easily fixed. We had the usual leaks and some new ones, but nothing major. The main sign to our parish and the Gabriel Project, were blown off of their posts, but we do have them! The Riverstone Rach Campus sustained no damage. Overall, our properties fared well and we are very grateful to have gone through something so severe with so little damage.
How Can I Help My Parish?
Keeping up with our parish is a never-ending task. Here are a few things that you can help with.- Trash Pick Up – The grounds tend to be littered by trash that is either left by people or gets blown in from the surrounding area. Help us by picking up litter and placing it in our trash bins. Or, bring a trash bag with you and get some exercise while you help us keep our grounds clean and take a nice walk!
- Facility/Grounds – Many of us do not realize that our Facilities Team consists of two employees. These employees are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of two campuses (Hall Rd/Riverstone Ranch) AND the Rectory! Here is how we can pitch in and assist them.
- Leaves! – We LOVE our trees, but during Autumn & Fall, the leaves/pine needles are constantly falling. These leaves/pine needles create a fall hazard, get blown into our buildings every time we open the door AND clog up the drains in the courtyard and parking lot. We need help raking/bagging these up.
- Floor Mats – Our floor mats need constant upkeep. Our team could use some help with sweeping the mats.
- Lawn Care – As mentioned previously, our team is responsible for the upkeep of three properties. Keep in mind that our Riverstone Ranch Property sits on 20 acres of land! We need help with weeding, edging, lawn mowing, etc. Members of our Knights of Columbus have graciously been helping us with the Riverstone Ranch property for years, but we need others to pitch in and help until we are able to fill up those 20 acres with buildings/parking! Our facilities team would greatly appreciate getting more people to join the Lawn Ministry.
- Dusting – As we experience in our own homes, keeping up with the dust is an exhausting battle! Help us with certain areas that need dusting.
We also need help with periodic deep cleaning of the following items.- Tables in the Social Hall – Our tables see a lot of traffic! Periodically, they need more than just a normal wipe down. Join our efforts in deep cleaning our tables every other month!
- Tables and Dry Erase Boards in the Education Building – Help us deep clean our dry erase boards and tables every other month!
We are happy to hear that the majority of our parishioners also fared well. Let us check in on each other and lend a helping hand where needed. We are many parts that form one body. We ALL can reach out and help bring healing to those in need. Let us make a difference where God is calling us to be of service.

¡A nuestro campus le fue bien!
El 24 de enero de 2023, muchos de nosotros pudimos comprobar “sobrevivir a un tornado” de nuestro ¡Lista de cosas de hacer! El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional de Houston confirmó que el tornado EF3 tenía una velocidad máxima de viento de 140 mph y una longitud estimada de ruta de 18 millas. Afortunadamente, nuestro campus sufrió solo daños menores.
La Rectoría (hogar de nuestros sacerdotes) no recibió ningún daño, sin embargo, una parte de la valla cayó. La valla fue reemplazada rápidamente. En nuestro campus Hall Rd, hubo daños mínimos en el techo, con solo unas pocas tejas volando, que desde entonces han sido reparadas. Uno de nuestros árboles perdió una rama (KCS ayudó en la remoción) y perdimos una pequeña palmera, con escombros de árboles (ramitas, ramas pequeñas y hojas) cubriendo el estacionamiento y el terreno, pero nada grande. Uno de nuestros recintos de la cerca se cayó, pero se arregló fácilmente. Tuvimos las goteras habituales y algunas nuevas, pero nada importante. La señal principal de nuestra parroquia y el Proyecto Gabriel, fueron despedidos de sus puestos, pero nosotros los tenemos! El Riverstone Rach Campus no sufrió daños. En general, a nuestras propiedades les fue bien y estamos muy agradecidos de haber pasado por algo tan severo con tan poco daño.
¿Cómo puedo ayudar a mi parroquia?
Mantenerse al día con nuestra parroquia es una tarea interminable. Aquí hay algunas cosas con las que puede ayudar.- Recogida de basura: Los jardines tienden a estar llenos de basura que es dejada por la gente o que es arrastrada por los alrededores. Ayúdanos recogiendo la basura y colocándola en nuestros contenedores de basura. O, traiga una bolsa de basura con usted y haga algo de ejercicio mientras nos ayuda a mantener nuestros jardines limpios y dar un agradable paseo!
- Alfombrillas – Nuestras alfombrillas necesitan un mantenimiento constante. Nuestro equipo podría necesitar ayuda para barrer las esteras.
- Cuidado del césped: Como se mencionó anteriormente, nuestro equipo es responsable del mantenimiento de tres propiedades. Tenga en cuenta que nuestra propiedad Riverstone Ranch se encuentra en 20 acres de tierra! Necesitamos ayuda con el deshierbe, los bordes, el corte de césped, etc. Los miembros de nuestros Caballeros de Colón han estado amablemente ayudándonos con la propiedad Riverstone Ranch durante años, pero necesitamos que otros participen y ayuden hasta que podamos llenar esos 20 acres con edificios / estacionamiento! Nuestro equipo de instalaciones apreciaría enormemente que más personas se unan al Ministerio de Césped.
- Desempolvar – Como experimentamos en nuestros propios hogares, ¡mantenerse al día con el polvo es una batalla agotadora! Ayúdanos con ciertas áreas que necesitan quitar el polvo.
Nos alegra saber que a la mayoría de nuestros feligreses también les fue bien. Permítanos registrarnos el uno al otro y echar una mano cuando sea necesario. Somos muchas partes que forman un cuerpo. TODOS podemos llegar y ayudar a traer sanación a los necesitados. Hagamos una diferencia donde Dios nos está llamando a ser de servicio.¡Somos San Lucas!
